How cool is this? A local cannabis activist has gone to the effort of organising a cannabis themed discussion in the recreation hall of the Bowling Club in his small hometown of Barrydale in the Karoo. If he can do it anyone can!

This is what we like to call Homegrown Dagga Activism!

Why not consider putting together and hosting a similar event in your neighbourhood or hometown?

It’s not often that we post petitions to sign, but in the wake of the Pondoland SAPS crop spraying debacle, we’d like to draw your attention to this:
There are already over 1 million signatures to stop the manufacture of glyophosate based herbicides and Monsanto is fighting the proposed ban of the product tooth and nail.

Monsanto vs our health

Guys some more bad news we’re afraid… the Durban Cannabis March has also been cancelled due to warnings from the police about their fears that xenophobic violence could flare up again at any point & upset the proceedings.

It is a disappointment for us that two out of the three dagga legalisation marches that were due to take place in SA this year have been called off, but please understand that these decisions were only made out of concern for the well-being of those who would be taking part in the marches.

The good news is that the Cape Town Cannabis March is still very much on the cards and all systems firing and ready to go! …read more

The organisers of the Soweto Dagga March in Johannesburg, that was scheduled to...

The organisers of the Soweto Dagga March in Johannesburg, that was scheduled to take place on Saturday 2nd May, have cancelled the event. This will no doubt be very sad and disappointing news to many, but we understand the reasoning behind the organisers reaching this decision. The local police were not exactly being as helpful or accommodating as they could have been and the threat of xenophobic violence was also something to take into consideration for the safety of would-be marchers.

Hopefully next year Johannesburg will get it’s long awaited cannabis legalisation march.

That said if you’re in Jozi and you are determined to take part in a march by hook or by crook this year you could always try and organise a bunch of your mates to make a road trip down to the Cape in time for the Cape Town Cannabis March on Saturday 9th May!

Global Cannabis March – Southern Africa

It is with regret that we have to walk away from the inaugural Global Cannabis March in Soweto this year. It’s not the right time and place. Soweto is volatile and the local police have made it difficult and prohibitively expensive with security and road closure demands to make the event anything other than a financial disaster. We tried our best, but with all the so called ‘xeno’ attacks going down, we feel it’s better to walk away than to get into financial and safety problems.it’s not over, it’s just cancelled for now……. …read more

Hi Cape Town. We are still looking for more people to help put up posters and hand out flyers for the upcoming march on Saturday 9th of May.

We specifically still need people from the following suburbs, neighbourhoods and communities to come forward, volunteer some of their time and assist –

– Pinelands, Durbanville, Kraaifontein, Brackenfell, Elsies Rivier, Delft, Khayelitsha, Guguletu, Manenberg, Philippi, Nyanga, Ottery, Muizenberg, Noordhoek, Plumstead, Wynberg, Kenilworth and including many other places.

The following areas have already been targeted by organisers, volunteers, activists, etc.

– Cape Town CBD, Vredehoek, Observatory, Seapoint, Claremont, Hout Bay and Imizamo Yethu, Tableview, Bothasig, Mitchells Plein, Atlantis, University of the Western Cape, Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Gordon’s Bay & Strand.

If you want to help us & need to get hold of some marketing materials there are a number of ways to do this:

A) Leave a comment in the comment section below this post

B) Send us a DM via this FB page or @[421822494605593:274:Bongalong]’s

C) Pop into either Little Amsterdam at 4A Buiten Street in Town (contact numbers are 021 424 2320 / 079 430 0434) or the Bongalong office at Sylvretta #3 on the corner of Kloof Nek Road and Camp Street (very close to Rafikis). The Bongalong contact number is 076 129 6812.

Remember that for posters the best places are those which are in high visibility areas such as taxi ranks, bus stops & train stations, in shop windows, at hairdressers, in minibus taxis, the local pin up board for advertising (usually outside supermarkets), libraries, university campuses and residences. Always ask permission when it concerns private property. Choices are only limited by your imagination. Expect some people to say no, but we have found that there is a surprising amount of good faith & support for the cause out there. …read more
